Pirates of the Burning Sea

Postby Loccus » Mon Jan 28, 2008 3:31 pm

Anyone pick this up? I'm giving it a shot. So far, it's not terrible...it's just not very polished. Give it a few patches and it might be worth a look. Also, I'm playing it on a laptop so I can't comment as to how good it looks.

So far, the PvP is pretty cool. I joined a society (aka "Guild") called the Bracket Brigade. We're on the unofficial RP server where everyone uses "(( ))" all the time. We decided to play like real pirates. Ganging up on lowbies, only fighting when we out number the other guy (the way the Alliance seems to do on Garona), causing havoc, chaos and generally doing our part to ruin the RP experience. We've made some assaults on some ports, but it didn't go over well.

Keep an eye on it. It might be a good Eve/WoW combo.

I've heard mixed reviews. Some people love it, others think the devs made a great economic simulator but forgot to make an interesting game.

Well, I think because it is a SOE game, a lot of people still have a bad taste in their mouths from "Star Wars: Galaxies." I'm not sure any MMO has ever been released without having some things that required a patch or three.

I was kind of digging the game during open beta. I put down the ten bucks to pre-order it, got into the headstart, and then I just couldn't really get back into it. I'm not sure why, really. I haven't even picked up the full game, yet.

Anybody know off the top of their head if Best Buy lets you put your pre-order down payment towards something else, like Gamestop does?

Didn't even know that GameStop did that.. I've just accepted I lost the $10 deposit and patted myself on the back for not buying the full retail box after the pre-order when I couldn't get into the game during the head start. Was that way for DDO, LOTRO and Tabula Rasa... I am so so so putting my hopes on Warhammer Online being competitive so I have something to replace WoW.

Well, that didn't last too long. It gets old after a while, and some of the quests are irritating.

Back to Half-Life 2.

The more I hear about Warhammer Online, the less optimistic I am. It's still all rumors and a friend-of-a-friend's-sister's-boyfriend-said things, but I've heard about 5 negative reports and none positive. My hopes are still there - I want it to be a good game - but might not rush out and preorder it the second it's available.

I kind of have the same thing going on, with wanting there to be another game out there worth playing. Primary hopes are currently riding on Age of Conan, which could either be very good or very bad. Secondary hopes on Warhammer, of course.
I am in your forums, posting in a grammatically correct manner.

Yeah, I don't know. Age of Conan and Warhammer just don't excite me. Pirates of the Burning Sea and Tabula Rasa were probably the only games that really had any chance to be the next good MMO, in my opinion. Star Trek: Online just got axed, from all the reports I just read so, so that's out. Star Wars: Galaxies will never be awesome again because Lucas Arts or George Lucas or SOE or whoever assed that game up is too too stubborn to listen to the legions of fans who left it. Stargate Online looks alright, but it's still too early to tell.

Someone, PLEASE, take a page from Blizzard: Don't make and MMO that is 100% revolutionary. Make one that takes the good aspects from about 10 different games and make it accessible by everyone. And quit nerfing shit, for crissakes.

Well, I don't think it's canceled completely, but basically the odds of it being released are about the same as the Packers making a 4th quarter comeback to beat the Patriots this Sunday.
